Buying A Cheap Domain Name

Buying A Cheap Domain Name

You will need to tell a web browser the domain name or URL of a web site in order to view it. Usually this URL is a word such as a business name or a phrase describing what the site is concerned with, or perhaps a word or phrase that is the site name. There is a vital difference between the domain names offered at no cost and those offered by companies that specialize in cheap domain names. You can get a second level domain name from companies, but from a free web host you are usually restricted to a third level domain.

A third level domain name includes the original hosting companies name as part of the address that must be typed in. A third level domain name is that the name is long and often tricky to recall which can be a big problem with them. Buying a new domain name will get around this difficulty. With the number of cheap domain companies it is easy to get one that is economical.

Free to about seven dollars is the usual price range for a cheap domain name. Web hosting companies that offer free domain names that are worth anything will usually want the customer to buy web hosting from them, and the domain name is still paid for as part of a bundle. Domain names can also be purchased on their own, without a web hosting package. You can pay anything from one dollar up for a paid for domain name.

The method of registration for a domain name makes no distinction between prices paid for the domains, so a cheap domain name is just as effective. When buying a domain name a customer's first step is checking that the name they want is still available. The customer must enter the name they are looking for into a certain text box and then decide on and select the extension chosen. If the domain name is still to be had, then they can buy it - if the name is not to be had, they must select another one. If the desired name is occupied then helpful companies will usually offer some suggestions for different names.

Unfortunately there are down sides to using cheap domain names, a person name never receive their domain name of the company they are using is unscrupulous. The company will tell the customer that the domain will not be active immediately and that they will have to wait for some time. At the end of a few days the domain still doesn't work, and emailing the company doesn't work either.

A person will want to ensure that the cheap domain name company isn't fraudulent - a good first step here is to check with the Better Business Bureau to see if the company is registered. The Better Business Bureau makes sure that companies are operating legitimately. Checking for traditional land based contact information such as an address and telephone number is a good second step to ensure that the cheap domain name company is not fake. Thirdly, visit some message boards that cater to webmasters and see if the company has a bad reputation there.

Of course, if no one has an opinion to offer you may want to take that as a warning and stay away. If the company you are considering is reputable then there is no other disadvantage to getting a cheap domain name with them. Cheap domain names work in the same way as regularly priced domain, so if a person knows of a reputable cheap domain name company then they should take advantage of it.
